As the Executive Director of the Walter Kaitz Foundation, Michelle Ray provides strategic leadership, and vision for the organization which is focused on providing opportunities for women, people of color among other diverse constituencies in the cable, media and entertainment industries.

Ms. Ray leads the Foundation’s varied activities including fundraising efforts, grant administration and program development.  She manages the Foundation’s grants, administrative and discretionary budgets totaling over $3M annually.  She also works with grant recipients to align their leadership development programs with the industry’s strategic objectives; monitors and evaluates programmatic activities, and fosters partnerships based on strategic alignments which has, since 2004, impacted over 10,000 diverse leaders across the industry.

Ms. Ray has been instrumental in steering efforts to develop a robust industry-wide workforce diversity survey whose results are used to benchmark industry metrics and provide company-specific information

with respect to internal labor markets while fostering new initiatives in response to survey insights.  She also created and advanced the Hollywood Creative Forum, the first program uniting the efforts of the television industry, the Writers Guild of America, the Directors Guild of America, the Producers Guild of America and the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences designed to match credentialed writers, producers and directors of color with production companies, studios and agencies serving the industry’s needs around diversity and inclusion behind the camera.

Ms. Ray also works collaboratively with national organizations that advocate for the social and economic interests of women, ethnic minorities, Veterans, people with disabilities as well as the LGBTQ community and connects them with the industry’s member companies to further diversity and inclusion goals.


Ms. Ray reports to the National Cable Telecommunications Association’s Board of Directors and provides strategic counsel to Board Members among other leading executives on their respective organizations’ cultural competency, talent recruitment, retention and promotion strategies.

Ms. Ray is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Canada with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science.  She is also a 2015 graduate of WICT’s prestigious Betsy Magness Leadership Institute – Class 31; a 2010 graduate of NAMIC’s highly respected Executive Leadership Development Program (ELDP) at UCLA’s Anderson Graduate School of Management and a 2002 graduate of CTAM’s Executive Management Program at Harvard University School of Business.
